Year 5 and 6 Amazing Race

3, 2, 1, HONK went the hooter as Tauriko school sprinted to Doug and Kevin. Ben, Casey, Toby, Troy, Sara and Claire had been chosen to represent their school and compete in the Amazing race against other primary schools from Tauranga at the Historic Village. Doug passed us a small white bag that contained a passport, maps and different notes about the Amazing race. In the back of the passport was a uncoded sheet of paper from a-z. The passport was filled with coded questions that you had to solve. All the schools ran to their first question which was ‘what supports the Historic Village sign?’ We answered the passport and turned right where we found a window with a piece of paper asking how many lollies are in this jar. We all guessed how many lollies were in the jar and we went with Troy's answer (75). After we uncoded the next message we headed off to our next clue. We wandered around looking for the answer for about 5 minutes but we still couldn't find the answer to our problem. So we flipped the page to our next question hoping it was an answer we knew. We sprinted to our next destination - we knew where it was this time. Kevin said we only had 45 minutes left to solve the puzzles in the passport. Looking at the passport we found our next question to solve, we headed off to the church to find the answer. The Church was a small room made out of wooden boards that reached to the tall triangular roof. When you entered the church  you stopped for a second as it was very cold. On the left of you was a beautiful and detailed mural that answered our question to the passport. In the 45 minutes we completed a lot of questions and surprisingly finished our passport, happy and proud. We felt that we represented our school very well and we think we did an amazing job.
